To Trixie, May You Dance Forever Amongst the Stars

The Dance
by Garth Brooks

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance.

I didn't know how to pay my respects properly to a furriend that left us, then I read the Meezers post about Trixie dancing. The above song came back to me, and it seemed to say everything I have ever felt about short term love.

As humans we can measure our lives in quarter-centuries, given that the average human in our society lives to 75 years or 3 quarters of a century. Our feline furriends were blessed with a fraction of that. We take them into our hearts knowing that we will outlive them. We know that along with the joy and happiness they bring, they bring the understanding that someday there will be a final goodbye.

If you own a cat (or any other pet), pick them up, hold them close, and ask... May I have this dance?

  1. What you wrote was so painfully true. We go into a loving relationship with our cats knowing full well that we will outlive them, but the love they give us is worth all the pain we suffer when we lose them. But, I believe we are reunited again and that sustains us until we are able to be together again.

  8. ohhh, doodness. how perfect was that song??!! what a fine tribute to miss trixie. you are a furry sweet bunch'o'kitties. but now She's leaking again, and we had just about gotten her to quit.

thank you for pointing out that painfully obvious missing choice on our poll. we don't have much faith in Her getting it changed; She wrassled a whole lot with putting up the original poll!! ;-} but we will know better next time!
